Church Planting: Glorious Fellowship Church Pretoria, A Ministry of Muledane Baptist Church.

^“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).

It is one thing reading about Matthew 16:18, and it is another to see and experience Christ building His Church in our day and age, here and now. It is a privilege to be part of what God is doing in the world by spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through weak vessels like ourselves.

Borrowing the language of the Apostle Paul, it is also humbling to know that God is sovereign in the work of giving life to the seed of His Word planted in our hearts: “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:6-7). In the same breath, the Prophet Isaiah wrote, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9).  

The planting of Glorious Fellowship Church in Pretoria started as a mysterious work of God, as always. It was early 2022 when I, Pastor Patrick Nemabubuni, received a call from Mr Curious (pseudonym) saying that he was tired of his church experience thus far and that his soul was longing for the undiluted Word of God.  He was fed up with the health and prosperity gospel; in response to his request, I visited him in his office, Centurion Pretoria, where I met another employee who was in the same spiritual condition as Mr Curious. Long story short, in the same week, I visited them and shared the gospel and they all recommitted themselves to the Lord.

Shortly after sharing the gospel with them, we started Bible Study sessions every Friday in Centurion, at their work boardroom, on the epistle of Second John and the word spread out like wildfire, and a few others joined the Bible Study Fellowship (see photo attached). Surprisingly, the few people who joined were also fed up with the health and prosperity gospel in their respective churches, thus looking for a sound biblical church. One spiritual need led to another, and finally, it was evident that those attending Bible Study Sessions were looking for a spiritual home or sound Biblical Church where they could continue to enjoy the same teachings and fellowship as they were doing in the Bible Study Sessions.

The move of God’s Spirit in the hearts of those attending the Bible Study Sessions was as irresistible as the one recorded by Luke in Acts 8:35-36, “Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?” Below is one of the pictures of our first Sunday gatherings in a boardroom in Centurion Pretoria.

Our study of the Bible also prompted the need for, and discipline of, corporate prayer as a part of the identity of our fellowship. Below is a photo of the first mountain prayer for Glorious Fellowship Church Pretoria as we planned and prayed about how to formalize our fellowship into a formal church gathering.

By God’s grace, in January 2023, we found a new church venue at Hall 202 Ancore Building, 85 Steve Street in Sunnyside Pretoria, next to Sunnypark Mall, where our parking is. Below is a photo of our first Sunday at the venue:
